Universal Life Insurance in Midland
A universal life policy can last your whole life, and you get some say in how much you pay each year. The tradeoff is a set of rules inside the contract. We explain cash value, policy charges and lapse protection in plain words before you apply.

How Universal Life Works, and Who It Suits
Think of universal life as coverage with an account attached. Every payment you make lands in that account. The insurer takes out a monthly charge for the insurance itself, and whatever is left earns interest. As long as the account has money in it, your coverage stays in force for life. The contract sets a lowest and highest payment, and you pick an amount in that band.
That setup helps people whose paychecks rise and fall. Plenty of work around Midland, Odessa and Big Spring follows the oil price. When money is good, you can put extra in. When it slows down, you can pay closer to the minimum and still keep your coverage.
We do not push it on everyone. Need coverage only until the kids are grown or a loan is paid off? Term life is much cheaper for that. Want a payment that stays the same forever? Whole life may be the better match. We will say so plainly.

What We Cover When We Set Up Your Policy
- 01
Sizing the coverage
Before any quote, we add up what you owe, who counts on your income and what you hope to leave behind. That math sets the coverage amount. Nobody's quota does.
- 02
Reading the illustration with you
Every universal life quote comes with an illustration showing how the policy may perform. It has a guaranteed column and a non-guaranteed column. We show you both and explain why the guaranteed one is the one to plan around.
- 03
Lapse protection options
Some policies offer a no-lapse guarantee rider that keeps coverage in force if you pay a set minimum. We explain what it costs, what it protects and what breaks it.
- 04
Beneficiary setup
We go over primary and contingent beneficiaries line by line. A wrong name or a missing backup can slow a claim for months.
- 05
Staying inside the tax limits
Federal tax law limits how much money a policy can hold for its size. Go past that limit and the IRS labels it a modified endowment contract, and any money you take out gets less favorable tax treatment. We track your payments against that limit.
- 06
Check-ins after the policy is issued
Universal life needs a look every few years. We review your annual statement with you and flag it early if the cash value is running thin.
Questions about Universal Life?
Call(432) 287-5495Signs Universal Life May Be Right for You
Your income is uneven
Commission, overtime or contract work makes fixed premiums hard to plan. Flexible payments let you adjust.
You want coverage that does not expire
Term policies end. If you want something in place at 80 or 90, permanent coverage is the way to get it.
You need to leave money for a specific purpose
Covering estate costs, providing for a child with special needs or equalizing an inheritance are common reasons people choose permanent coverage.
Your term coverage is running out
A lot of term contracts include a conversion option. It lets you switch to permanent coverage with no fresh health exam, but only before a set date. Pull out your policy and find that date before it passes.
You bought universal life years ago
Many older contracts were priced on interest credits that have since dropped. Some are now short of money and closer to lapsing than the owner knows. A review shows where yours stands.
How the Process Works
- 1
Start with a phone call
You explain the job you want this coverage to handle. We cover your health, your income and anything you already have in force.
- 2
Compare quotes and illustrations
We pull options and go over the guaranteed and projected numbers with you. You see the cost of insurance charges and how they rise with age.
- 3
Apply and complete underwriting
The insurer asks health questions and may order a paramedical exam, blood work or medical records. We tell you what to expect and roughly how long each step takes.
- 4
Review the issued policy
Once approved, we read the final contract with you and confirm it matches what was quoted. Texas policies come with a review period after delivery, and we make sure you know how long yours is.
What Moves the Cost of Universal Life
Universal life premiums are not one fixed number. You choose how much to pay within a range, and that choice affects how long the policy lasts. These are the things that move the price most.
- Age and health
- The insurer rates you at application. Younger, healthier applicants get lower cost of insurance charges, and those charges climb each year as you age.
- Face amount
- The more coverage you buy, the bigger the insurance charge pulled from the account each month. That takes more premium to keep the policy healthy.
- Minimum or more
- Sending in the lowest allowed payment saves money now, but the account has almost nothing in reserve. Putting in extra grows a balance that can cover the rising charges in your later years.
- Riders
- A no-lapse guarantee, waiver of premium or long-term care rider each add cost. We show the price of each so you decide which are worth it.
- Tobacco use
- Smokers and tobacco users pay noticeably more. Some insurers reclassify you after a set period without tobacco.
Universal Life Questions We Hear Often
What happens if the money inside my policy runs out?
The coverage ends. That can happen when monthly charges grow faster than your payments plus the interest credited. Paying the required minimum on time under a no-lapse guarantee rider keeps that from happening. We also walk you through your annual statement so you can spot a shrinking balance early.
How is universal life different from whole life?
Whole life has a fixed premium and guaranteed cash value growth. Universal life lets you change what you pay, but the growth depends on credited interest and the policy charges. You get flexibility in exchange for keeping a closer eye on it.
Can I take money out of the policy?
Once cash value builds up, you can borrow against it or withdraw part of it. Any loan you leave unpaid comes out of what your beneficiary gets. A big withdrawal can also drain the account enough to end the coverage. We run those numbers with you before you touch it.
Do I need a medical exam?
Most universal life applications involve health questions, and many include a short exam with blood and urine samples. Some smaller policies skip the exam. We tell you up front which route your application will likely take.
What is indexed universal life?
It is a version that credits interest based on a stock market index, with a cap on gains and a floor that protects against losses. The projections can look strong. We focus on the guaranteed values and the caps so the picture stays realistic.
