Retirement Income Planning in Midland

Money sitting in an account does not pay the bills by itself. We help you set up steady monthly income from what you have put away. Before anything gets signed, we explain the contract rules, the fees and the limits on early withdrawals, so nothing is left buried in the fine print.

What retirement income planning means here

Saving for retirement is one job. Spending it down without running short is another. We work on the second part. We look at the income you will have, like Social Security or a pension, and the gap between that and what you spend each month. Then we look at insurance-based ways to fill that gap, such as annuities or the cash value in a permanent policy.

These products come with rules. Some limit how much you can take out in the early years. Some charge a fee if you leave early. Most have a short window after delivery when you can cancel. We explain each rule in plain words, show you where it sits in the contract and answer your questions until the picture is clear.

We are an insurance agency, not a tax office. When a choice affects your taxes, we tell you so and suggest you check with your tax professional before you decide.

What the work includes

An income gap worksheet
We list your expected monthly income next to your monthly costs. The difference is the number we plan around.
Product options side by side
We show you which insurance-based options could cover the gap, and which ones do not fit. You see the trade-offs for each one: access to money, growth, fees and how long income lasts.
Surrender charges explained
Many annuities take a cut when you withdraw above the yearly limit during the early contract years. We lay that schedule out one year at a time, so you can see when your money is fully yours again.
Free-look and replacement rules
Contracts give you a set number of days to cancel after delivery. If a new contract would replace one you already own, state rules require extra disclosure, and we go through that paperwork with you line by line.
Beneficiary review
We check who is named on each contract and what they receive. Old beneficiary lines are one of the most common problems we find.

When an income plan makes sense

  • Your last paycheck is a few years away

Once you are within about five years of stopping work, timing choices start to count. Leave it to the final month and some options are already gone.

  • You have savings but no monthly number

A balance on a statement is not a paycheck. If you cannot say what you can safely spend each month, we should talk.

  • You were sold a contract you do not understand

Maybe an annuity was bought years ago and nobody explained it. We read it with you and tell you what it does, what it costs and what leaving would cost.

  • A pension decision is on your desk

Lump sum or monthly checks is a big, often one-time choice. We help you see what each path looks like over time.

  • Your spouse would lose income if you died first

Some pensions and Social Security amounts drop when one spouse passes. Planning can cover that drop.

What affects the cost

Planning conversations do not lock you into anything. What you pay depends on the product you choose, and the fees are built into the contract. We show you every charge in writing so nothing turns up later.

Type of product

A simple income annuity has different costs than one with growth features or optional riders. More features usually mean more fees.

Riders you add

Income guarantees, long-term care add-ons and death benefit riders each carry their own charge. We explain what each one buys you so you can skip the ones you do not need.

Surrender period length

Longer surrender periods can come with better rates, but they tie up your money longer. We help you weigh that against when you may need access.

Your age and timing

When you start income affects the monthly amount. Starting later usually pays more per month but leaves you waiting longer.

How we work through it with you

  1. 1

    First phone call

You tell us where things stand: your age, your rough savings, any pension and when you want to stop working. We tell you whether we can help and what we will need.

  2. 2

    Gathering your papers

We ask for your Social Security estimate, pension statements and any policies or annuities you own. We meet by phone or at your business, whichever is easier for you.

  3. 3

    Options on paper

We lay out two or three approaches in writing. Each one shows the monthly income, the fees, the surrender schedule and what goes to your beneficiary.

  4. 4

    Applying and reading the contract

If you decide to go forward, we complete the application together and take care of the disclosure forms. Once the contract shows up, we read through it with you while the cancellation window is still open, so backing out is still on the table.

Questions about retirement income planning

Will I be pushed to buy a product?

No. The first step is your numbers and the choices in front of you. When an insurance product is not a good fit, we say so plainly. What happens after that is up to you.

What is a surrender charge?

It is a fee some annuities charge if you take out more than the allowed amount during the first several years. The fee usually shrinks each year until it is gone. We show you the full schedule before you apply.

Can I cancel after I sign?

Yes, for a short time. Each contract has a free-look period that starts the day it is delivered to you. If you change your mind inside that window, you can send the contract back and the insurer returns what the contract itself spells out. The number of days is printed in the contract, and we mark it for you during our review.

Should I replace an annuity I already own?

Sometimes yes, often no. Replacing one can trigger surrender charges and restart a new surrender period. State rules require a written comparison, and we go through it with you honestly.

How does this fit with my life insurance?

Some clients use the cash value in whole life or universal life insurance as part of their income plan. Others keep term life insurance for family protection and plan income separately. We look at what you already own before suggesting anything new.
